Are you in the flow of life or are you struggling against the tide?
Being in the flow of life… that feeling you get when the universe conspires to help you do what you have your heart set on.
Or are you feeling a bit stuck… the sense that you are being thwarted, by life or by yourself, despite your best intentions.
How can we get back into the flow?
1. What are you trying to achieve and is it working?
2. Observe your intentions – why are you doing what you are doing?
3. Get clear on your strengths and values. For three simple ways to do this, see my post – “Step One of Living a Purposeful Life: Defining your Values.”
4. Evaluate whether your actions truly reflect your values, and make some changes if necessary.
5. Balance the energy you invest in the different pursuits of your life (such as home life, career, love, friends, family, health, and finances).
A practical example of creating balance: sometimes when I feel stressed or pressure around my work life, I plough too much energy into it, at the expense of other facets of my life. What I have found recently is that by addressing these other areas – like investing in my social bonds or even simply getting on top of my domestic tasks, I am creating a shift in energy. The flow shifts and things start to blossom on the career front even though I have been attending to other valuable pursuits.
If you are feeling stuck in one area, see what you can do to create movement in another area of life. You might be surprised just what blossoms and where.
6. Take action in service of others, for the benefit of all, for all humanity… watch what happens when you dedicate your energy and effort to something greater than yourself.
From my experience, here’s the deal: know what your values are, understand how it is that you can make a contribution, and the universe will help you make it happen. Assess your goals in light of this intended legacy – if your goals compliment your life purpose, they may flow with greater ease. If not, there may be blocks and the journey much harder.
Allow your life purpose to guide your aspirations and your actions, and you open yourself up to the flow of life. Even from the simplest things in daily life, for example, how you approach your domestic tasks – see how this doing this load of washing serves your family and take the action in the knowledge that is fulfills your family values. Keep the universal flow moving by balancing the energy you invest in the different pursuits of your life.
This is the mantra I use at the end of my daily meditation:
“All that I am, I offer up in service of all humanity and for all that I receive I am truly thankful”.
If this resonates for you, spend some time contemplating it and find ways to bring it into action in your daily life. I’d love to hear what flows your way!
